Yamunanagar is the northern district of Haryana and is known for cluster of plywood units and paper industries. Earlier it used to be a part of Ambala district but got separated in November 1989. It was earlier known as Abdullahpur but later renamed by the city’s eminent people as Jamnanagar and then later on as Yamunanagar.
Yamunanagar has yamuna river forming the eastern boundary with neighbouring Saharanpur district of Uttar Pradesh. As per census 2011, the urban population of city was 383318 out of which males were 205346 and females were 177972.
